Temporary Stay Granted To Utah

The article can be found here.

What this article talks about pertains a lot to what we were talking about in class. One of the biggest topics in the nation (and definitely Utah) is the fact that a judge ruled that gay marriage was legal in Utah. This came as a shock to many people, because Utah was a very unlikely candidate for this quickly legalizing gay marriage. However, it did happen. In a crazy couple of weeks, Utah scrambled, and did happen to receive a stay from the Supreme Court. That is what this article talks about. However, what this will actually result in is still a toss-up. Utah has to go and appeal the case in a 10th circuit court, and we will just have to wait and see what happens.

I am very glad that they received this stay. I know that it is possible it may not change anything, but I think that they do deserve to appeal. I will be very honest in saying that I am against gay marriage. I recognize that this belief is quickly becoming unpopular, especially outside of Utah, but I will stand by it. I just hope that during this whole appeal, and the courts' decisions and rulings, that we will be able to peacefully resolve the conflict.

  1. I also hope for a peaceful settlement. And though I am also against gay marriage, I hope that whatever the decision of the courts is that they will be fair in the treatment of those that have already gotten married. I just want to make sure that no one is hurt out of this whole mess.
